I buy my Amsoil 75w140 for $14 at a mortar and brick store about 1/4 mile from where I work. I started using it after I got chunks so I really don't know what effect it has. Regardless, I drive at small tracks with 1st gear hairpins that hammer differentials. I really wonder how the waffle pattern washers interlock and whether they can be replaced with CNCd steel versions.

Its perfectly fine. I would probably use 75w110 if my diff was fresher. You'll get better fuel economy and better lockup on the track and 99% of the protection of 75w140.

Oures are steel with a gold finish on them, they are magnetic. They are smooth on one side and the smooth sides go together.

Found three ears and my diff is whirring/whining really loud! At least I think it's the diff, there's another issue with whining isn't there that's to do with the back end of the gearbox?

Damnit. Just found two ears on the plug and my input bearing is very angry sounding,. I think one took a trip through it on its way to the plug.

If it tried to go through any of the pinion bearings it would go boom.
Without any clear marks on the ears it is safe to assume it (they) just fell out the Torsen without creating too much damage.

Please answer the obvious question, the question on eveybody's mind reading your post.

It's coming of the car right now so I can inspect it and order the needed parts for a rebuild. FWIW, this is my second victim and is an AP2 of unknown age with the companion flange swapped. Car has 149k, and I have almost 90k on the diff. I beat the hell out of it. That should answer a few questions.

Hmmm... I do not see THE answer...
Has to do with that stuff, you know, the kinda keep-parts-apart product.

Amsoil severe gear. I'm willing to bet the severity of the lock-up event would snap the ear off. They have clean shear and look like an instantaneous failure. No bluing. I don't usually lift when the course gets bumpy, so there's likely some small wheel hop events.
