Default Metal pieces in engine?!

2000 s2k
I know for sure there's a 1/2 inch metal peice that's in my engine somewhere. My timing chian jerked from having no tension and broke the metal piece off of my timing guides. What could this cause?

Ps. I tried turning the engine on a couple times before I found out I have a metal piece that broke off my timing guide.

It is likely sitting in the bottom of the oil pan, you are going to pull the timing chain cover to fix the problem, so remove the oil pan as well if you don't see it above anywhere.

Did you ever figure out if the cams were aligned properly wrt the crank? Until you do this --- DON'T turn the engine over. Or you maybe looking at a valve job, on top of the timing chain issues.

Great I hope it's there, I'm actually dropping the oil pan today. Also if I tried to crank the engine would this effect my rods and crank shaft?

it wouldn't effect your rods or crank but might have bent a valve. also the pieces that come off the chain guide are plastic
