Metallic Noise
Hi all
I'm sure I will get the answer here, not at my Honda Dealer. I have done a search and found a little on this subject, but it seems to pertain to pre-2004 S2000s.
At first I thought it was the engine, but now I'm convinced the noise is in the clutch area. As I engage the clutch in almost any gear I hear the metallic rattling for a short time during the travel of the clutch pedal (about half way up). It sounds crappy for a new (2005) car with only 5K miles.
I took it to the dealer and one of the techs sat in the car and listened for a while and proclaimed the car is not making any unusual noises. I also have a bud that owned a 2004, and he drove the car and said the same thing.
Is it a normal noise that I hear because the nature of a raw sports car without much deadening insulation, or is it something I need to attend to?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me...Rick

I wouldn't get too nervous about a metallic rattle, unless it gets really loud. This could be a throw-out bearing making some noise, or possibly a noisy clutch plate.
Everything is louder and more noticeable with this car compared to a sedan. If you're not feeling excessive clutch pedal vibration or require lots of force to press on the clutch pedal, I wouldn't get too worried about it. You can always ask for more opinions from other drivers.
However, I would stay easy on the throwout bearing to make it last longer. It would be a shame to have to drop the tranny just to replace a T/O bearing. Don't ride the clutch, especially at high RPMs.

Thanks Slalom
I own an NSX that is much more refined and quiet. I knew when I bought the S2000 that is was built to be a more pure sports car. I have never turned a radio up and down so much in my life...anyway I appreciate your comments and will heed you advice about the clutch. There is no mechanical issues with the clutch, as a matter of fact I like the feel of the S's clutch/transmission better than the X's.

Every S2k I've been in since 00 has had a noticeable throwout bearing noise with the clutch released in nuetral. Push the clutch in and it goes away. Weather or not your noise is the same I can't say.
