Default Morning startup noise...

So typically when i start my car up in the morning, I hear a sort of hissing noise for a split second then it goes away. It sounds like its probably a belt trying to catch, but I dont know for sure? any input?

also....i didnt want to start a whole new thread for this, but lately when i've been driving on the freeway, if i have the radio off, I can hear a high pitched hine while accelerating. almost sounds like its coming from behind and underneath me.

Thanks guys, all your input is helping me out a lot on this site.

The air pump whines at cold start and for a system self check. It's normal.

whine under accel is a separate issue.

is it a 'whine' or more of a click on, click off.

mine clicks on for 1 second and clicks off immediately...

does that sound normal to be for such a short duration?

If it is only for a short time, I am guessing it isn't the air pump or the air pump is having a problem. It the noise lasts for about 30 seconds, then I would agree with the air pump diagnosis.

no its definately not that then, its basically like a split second hiss/whine. It basically sounds like a pulley is spinning and a belt isnt catching.

Any ideas on the whine when accelerating?

i've always suspected that my air pump was having a problem because it would switch on for such a SHORT period of time...

any more information on this?
