Default Mugen Differances?

Will a Mugen N1 ECU bought directly in Japan for the home market cars be any different than the N1 ECU for USA and European cars?

Hi,
I have ECU from Japan and run on Shell Optimax. No problems. I believe that they are all the same and that Mugen are very precise about track use only. I highly reccomend doing all cooling mods (ie fan cut in/ thermostat/ water wetter) and adding temp guage before using. I have SPA gauge (Demon Tweeks) on both the lower hose and also on the inlet air hose. I have set up the SPA to warn if air temp exceeds 30 degrees c or water is over 80 degrees c. I have also noticed that the temp gauge shows 3 bars when water is only at about 20 degrees c, I tend to wait until water is up at arounf 45 degrees before exceeding even 4000 revs.
I will be at the Southern mini meet next week. The ECU makes a difference - seems more aggresive than standard

Maca,

Just a quick question: did you have your second water temperature gauge mounted before adding RedLine's WaterWetter? It seems that the product increases the response of the water temperature sender, i.e. it reads higher...

Is your additional gauge mounted in or around the lower rad hose? If it's around, i.e. not in direct contact with the water, it would explain the discrepancy between the stock gauge (now "boosted" by the product) and the aftermarket gauge whose sender is not in contact with the water.

Just a thought.

I added gauge and water wetter at the same time. The thermocouple is mounted in bottom hose about 3 inches from thermostat and makes direct water contact and is shrouded from engine using reflective heat insulator. I had an interspace made up with the thermocouple installed.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the info on the effect of water wetter on the water gauge reading

My pleasure Maca,

I mentioned that possibility as it happened to me: Instantly, after introdcing WW in the cooling system, my temp gauge read higher. I attributed that to the conducting properties of WW.

Sounds like you have a very neat installation... Is the SPA gauge the high-end multi-function LCD gauge? Are you happy with it?

Cheers,
Benjamin.

Yes, I have the dual digital gauge plus temp sensors. It is very accurate. Only criticism is that it can suffer from heat soak and takes a time to cool down when measuring ambient temp on the inlet side.
Other than that a good piece of kit with easy set-up

I always thought SPA's products were good, but never had first-hand input; Thanks. You haven't had any issues regarding water leaks around the sender?

I am not yet an owner, perhaps in a year or so. Until that time, I will have to content myself with vicarious ownership via this board

Will you be in Barcelona and Pau? I will try to make it to Pau for the track day (my mother lives there and it is only a two hour drive from Carcassonne, which is where I live). I will try to bring a Merc 190 Evolution II (aka the Cosworth-tuned winged wonder).

Bye for now,

Benjamin.
