Default mugen thermostat install

For those of you that are thinking about a lower temp thermostat, it is a pretty easy install if you go in from the bottom. Scott at King Motorsports mentioned that and sure enough, jack up the car, the two bolts for the lower hose are pretty accessible, and in about 30 min, you have a new thermostat! I replaced the radiator cap too.

Not too much $$ to run cooler either,

I'd say a pretty easy mod considering everything.

Did the brakes and thermostat in about 2 hours by myself. so I'd say pretty quick replacement.

Hope more folks give it a go.

Kinda makes you wish you had an analogue water temperature gauge to accurately monitor your new cooling system target temps now don't it.

yep, exactly, have you checked to see how much cooler you are running?

I'm thinking about the radiator too. Was that a pretty easy install? Does everything bolt on to the mugen one? fans etc?

What made you go spoon thermo, etc instead of mugen?

Well I'm embarrassed to say why I went with the Spoon but I'll tell the truth, "group buy price of $160 for thermostat, thermo-switch and cap". At least Mugen shows you the new target temps for their thermostat on their web-site, I don't even know what Spoon's are - it just said "cooler operating temperature???

The radiator came Friday and was an easy retro-fit of fans and mounting brackets - waiting on 2 new hoses from Majestic Honda today to finish.

Since I don't have an analogue water temp gauge yet I'll have NO CLUE what temperature the car's running at. These digital bars are a joke.

you can't beat the GB prices!

I think the spoon thermostat runs a little cooler than Mugen, at least from what i have seen. I'm interested if the thermo swith will make the fans run most of the time now. It hot weather that would be my only concern. Any idea on that one yet?

P.S. The only reason I went with the radiator's additional cooling was I live in Florida and plan on full time operation with the Mugen ECU.
Scott said he runs the Mugen ECU all the time without the radiator and has never had a problem. I can't afford to find out different the hard way.

my thoughts exactly being in the DC area, with all the heat and humidity, I can't afford to blow an engine. He has access to all the goodies while we don't. It's just $800 seems a little steep for a radiator. And what to do with all the old parts? Have you tired to sell any of the stuff?

good point, how easy was the thermo switch install...maybe i should consider it.

Have you noticed a lot of increase in performance with the ECU?

I have a header and CAI from Mugen on order and I am thinking ECU, what are your thoughts, have you done any dyno work to see what the improvements are along the way?

While I don't plan on selling my car I'll keep the OE radiator in case it had to go back in to sell the Mugen outright and the car stock.
