Post Multiple symptoms, Idle, Performance +Power

Hello fellow S2k owners/enthusiasts.
My problem could be several different things beside the the "MAP Whack"...

I did many searches already, however, I find that what I am experiencing could be anything from Fuel delivery, MAP, or Valve problems.

Any ideas or suggestions would be more than welcome and helpful. Also, I do APOLOGIZE FOR THE LONG POST, however for those who know what I am going through can relate to the frustration. Thanks in advance.

Ok, First off it is a 2001, and is Supercharged with Comptech Aftercooler also.

I will list the problems I have and then I will give a brief description when they all seem to happen.

1. When first starting car, a bad ticking noise starts with it only for the first 1-2 seconds and as the engine lowers to idle rpm, it goes away. ( I did check the oil, and it is not low, however this noise seems to come and go on different start ups. (This makes me wonder if this is related to valves?)

2. A VERY significant decrease in power throughout all powerband, and with this loss of power, the car seems to "BOG" or "Balk" during acceleration, coasting, and also deceleration. This too is temperamental, it comes and goes on different days. When driving during this power loss, the car overall just feels like it is dragging and "old".

3. ***Car also has very rough idle at times (Not always), and when it does idle rough, the car STALLS during coasting or parked. NOTE: I have applied the mAP whack several times and with the first few attempts, it DID seem to work, back strong again and pulling like a Supercharged S should, however this seems to go away with the next time I start it again. Even worse, the MAP Whack seems to not work as often any longer. On this I would like to note that I did read the recent post by the gentleman who warned against HAILING THE MAP WHACK AS THE "FIX ALL", and that these symptoms probably are deeper-rooted.

Ok now for the description when they occur; Honestly, as I said before ALL of these problems "Come and GO", however the loss in power has seemed to be permanent, as it seems to perform about the same as stock or a little less. ):

Possible reasons that are my fault: Ok, don't be too harsh on me, but I do admit to a couple mis-shifts on down-shifting, and I am sure over-rev has happened, but I will say I was always quick to release clutch rapidly... I admit, I bought the car one year ago at age 20 (with my money ) and I have learned a great deal about caring for your car.

I know these kind of posts are getting old, but any new advice, or help would be greatly appreciated.

A.C.

How loud is the ticking noise? Can you hear it over normal operation of the engine? From outside the car?

1) Do you have a CEL light on?
2) A Compression check says what?
3) Have you checked your ESM connections with a voltmeter? ESM malfeasence could contribute your bogging/power issues but it wouldn't explain death at idle. An ODB2 scanner that can capture real time data would also help identify the issue if you have a boost gauge.

I'd assue since you didn't state the CEL is on that it isn't. It can still have a DTC stored but not have a CEL on. It would be worth checking for.

The ESM is the only electronics installed with the Comptech. Since it wires to the MAP sensor input, loose/poor connections here result in strange engine performance.

Since your car is not stock, you need to make sure the non-stock components are funtioning like they should before moving on to troubleshooting OEM systems.

As far as the ticking noise, several people have found faultly cam chain auto tensioners cause a ticking at cold start. You'll need to use long screwdriver, or stethascope to listen underhood for the source of the noise.

How long has the SC been on the car? The tapping bothers me but other then that it sounds like an OBD-II mismatch in the fuel trim. This will correct itself if the insatll is new.

Thanks so far.

To answer:

No CEL is on

Charger installed about 8 months ago.

Ticking noise happens only at starting and then it comes and goes when slowing down or braking to a stop.

Again thanks, and I have copied all of the posts to refer to later for diagnosis.

Keep it coming, even those who are experiencing what I am and have recieved useful info from others.
