Default Is my car falling apart? - HELP!!!

I have had the wierest rattle for the last day. It starts almost when you start rolling and gets loudest around 17-20 mph. It can bearly be heard at high speeds. It sounds like someone is in the trunk knocking to get out (nope - I checked). I read a lot of threads on rattling, and learned that a lot were caused by the spare tire - nope. Tight as can be. I emptied out my trunk (and everything else in the car to eliminate a few variables. It almost sounds like one of my wheels is going to fall off. They are all torqued very tightly. Any ideas or anyone else with this problem?

ummm, test your diff...jack up the back of your car, both sides. leave the car in gear, ebrake off. spin one rear wheel. it should spin relatively easy, and the opposite wheel should spin in the opposite direction. if it requires some effort to spin the wheel you got some problems. you should be able to do it with two fingers.

Here's the deal. I just went down to my detail bay and put the car up on the lift. It's a frame lift so the wheels were off the ground. I got under the car and checked everything. Nothing was loose (that I could see). I tried the differential and did what josh3io suggested. The opposite tired turned in the opposite direction with almost no effort. There were no unusual noises. One thing I did notice however is that there are rubber things between the springs (2 or 3 i believe). Are these the spacers that the dealer was supposed to take off? I left them on.

The wierd part: I took the car off the lift finding no problem I could diagnose myself. It's no longer making the noise! I didn't modify anything!???? Anyone have a clue?

ok i have a "whoosh" sound every now and then and have tracked it down to the AC when it kicks on - but noone can find any problem and now it doesn't do it anymore - so i'm assuming that the s2k is so cool that ghosts and spirits are so attracked to it and they have to ride along for as long as they are allowed and then they have to go back to where ever they come from - so i guess i'll have another shot of jack daniels and quit worrying about it.

John,

Those are EXACTLY what they look like. I checked the car when I got it, but they're black and so are the springs. I couldn't see them until the wheels dropped when the car was on the lift tonight. I bet that's what the sound is from. Hopefully it didn't do any serious damage. I put 1400 miles on the car. The best way to describe the noise is that someone is in the trunk knocking to get out.

Is the dealer supposed to remove these? According to the manual they are.

yikes!! Get the spacers off there as soon as possible, or better yet, inform the dealer that they were not removed. They are supposed to remove them. I have no idea the problems that the spacers can cause, I'm guessing strange handling is all, but make sure the dealer is aware and maybe even have the dealer remove them, get it documented in case any problems arise!

Good luck!!

Damn. The dealers amaze me with their incompetence. This is S2000 predelivery prep 101. I would not take your car back to this dealer for anything. They're probably not capable of an oil change.

Gross negligence on the dealer's fault. Bring it to their attention, point to the fact that your life was in danger when driving for the last 1,400 miles that you will raise all hell with Honda of America if they don't comp you the 7year, 100,000mile bumper to bumper Honda warranty, incase there was any unforseen damage done to the car. Or throw in a hard top or something. This is maddening to me. The dealers are so proud that they are selling a world class sportscar, they charge ridiculous amounts over MSRP, they don't allow test drives and then they pull something like this. MAKE IT HURT for them. Play hard ball.
