Unhappy My car is running like crap, Got 2 CEL Codes....

So my car gets in moods where it likes to kinda sputter and sound like its misfiring down low, And when it runs crappy I just push the clutch in, rev it to about 8-8500 and the proble goes away. Its really strange and I cannot think of where to even start to diagnose this problem. It has brand new plugs in it that were a little white upon inspection, I have 2 cel codes, Here they are, This is what the print out from autozone says...

P1457 Evap cpntrol system leak detected, Possible causes, Loose fuel cap (Brand new one installed, oem part from honda, vapor canister saturated, failed vent solenoid, failed purge solenoid.

The second one is p0325 Knock sensor condition, Causes are.....Knock sensor defective, check wiring and connector to sensor, engine mechanical condition-knock or rattle in engine, Low fuel pressure.

The low fuel pressure parts makes sense because of the plugs lookin as if the motor has been running lean. The motor is a 2.1L with darton sleeves, Carrillo rods and cp pistons. I know I could probably use a fuel pressure regulator, But my motor isnt too far from stock specs as far as my build goes so I was figuring the stock eco could at least handle normal everyday driving. After initial break in the motor ra fine without this problem for about a month. So all you s2k geniuses out there PLEASE HELP. I dont know where to even start!!!!

The knock sensor is easily damaged especially when changing the clutch. It is located just under the intake manifold sticking out the side of the block between cyl 2 & 3.

Not sure on the evap issue if it is not the gas cap.

For the EVAP code, I would go through all the parts and make sure everything is either connected and/or plugged in properly as a start. Use the manual, it outlines all the components and offers recourse.

You need to get your car on a dyno and check how your A/F ratio is. Assuming the factory ECM can handle the changes of your engine is a little crazy.

The knock sensor code is probably saving your engine from going "ka-boom", just a theory.

Good luck.

But why does revving the engine with the clutch pushed in seem to fix the problem? It takes several hours and sometimes a day or 2 before the problem returns.

p1457 has nothing to do with the gas cap. It could be one of the three solenoids, evap canister or hoses.

Download the manual, I'd check the MAP sensor. I'd also plug the two ports in the Throttle Body while the engine is running. If it dies the IACV is bad. Another common thing is the Evaporator Purge solenoid. I replaced it in my car and it seemed to idle much better. You can get the manual at honda-hookup.com all you have to do is register, its free. There is another solenoid in the fuel evaporation system you could check, I forget the name of it.

It has a whole diagnostic section. Step by step troubleshooting. Handy thing to have my friend.
