So what to do if you get a CEL? First, look at the CEL. If it is blinking continuously, STOP and DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR!! A flashing CEL can be indicative of something catastrophic going on, and continued use of the engine or driving the car could exacerbate the problem and make the costs to repair it grow into a HUGE amount! If the CEL is blinking, you have no choice but to get it towed to the dealership to have it checked out and fixed.

Read the stickies above.

Don't drive the car until you get the codes from the CEL. Period. You have a blinking CEL.

Buy a diagnostic tool, or have the S towed to a dealership. Get the code(s) and post what you get on here.

Are you sure it's not the maintenance light that is blinking?

Is it a little picture of an engine, or is it a light that says MAINT REQD? The former (blinking) indicates a serious problem. Do not drive the car. check the code pulled, and proceed. The latter means you need to change your oil.
