Default Is my clutch fried?

I have an '02 with about 20,000 miles and the clutch is slipping like crazy at high rpm shifts. I'm pretty sure its fried, but just wanted some more input before I dump $$ into a new one. I guess Honda only covers the clutch for 1 Yr or 12k miles.

Every time I accelerate hard and shift at around 8-9k and hit the gas, the rpms soar, but the car takes a few seconds to catch up. It feels like I have the clutch slightly depressed when I don't at all.

Was wondering what type of clutch to go with? Do I also need a new flywheel and pressurplate.

tks

Sounds like it is deffinatly time for a new one . Since you are in there you might as well replace the fly wheel too. I am waiting till I can get everything that will need replacing sooner or later before I take the tranny off.

I have a 02 also but i only have 7500 miles on it. My clutch always felt a little weak, on the test drive it wouldnt churp second. I ran it at the track once and did a 7000 rpm launch and it slipped all of first and second. It still drove ok normally though. I'm getting a clutch now. In prior posts people said to do the ACT pressure plate and oem disk. Thats what I am putting in now along with a Comptech flywheel. Now I here people saying the Starr clutch is good. I never heard of it and I've seen supercharged s2ks running the ACT setup.

Woah, hang on a sec. The clutch isn't covered in the 3yr general warrantee?? Are you sure about that? I have an '02 also, and I don't see any special exclusion in the warranty booklet for the clutch...

Am I missing something? Kekoa, IMO this should be covered!

Kekoa,

I've just read this a little more. Unless you got your car used (or it's a demo or it's leased), you should be covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The warranty does not cover "normal wear or deterioration of any part," but a clutch failure at 20,000 miles doesn't fit that exclusion (in my opinion).

Seems to me you're covered.

To be fair, a clutch could wear out after 20,000 miles if it was not broken in properly or if the owner did not know how to properly drive.

Kekoa,

Let me put it this way. As an owner, I'm not taking "no" from Honda as an answer if my clutch goes before warranty expiration. Normal wear?? Sorry, no way.

That said, if you're doing clutch dumps like revhi or racing a lot... OK, maybe Honda would have a point, and maybe it's not worth pushing them on this. You want that warranty in case you have engine trouble, I guess.

Just my $0.02... Under "normal" usage, a clutch shouldn't be failing at 20K mi.
