Default My engine light on after...

I just put on Invidia test pipe & Invidia N1 Cat-back Exhaust to my '06 by myself. I check every join nice and tight and run great from the first day, but since 2nd day afternoon, the ENGINE LIGHT UP (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) when on my way home. So I drive into a shopping mall parking lot to see what happen! I find out my engine oil was right on the line (L), beside I don't see anything wrong, my car's driving condition still perfect.
Since I got my car 2 1/2 months ago, I thought the first oil change can wait until 5% Oil Life (now is 10%), but now I think is time.

My problem now is, after I change oil & filer, the Engine Light is UP
now the Engine Light make me kind of nervous and worry, according the owner's manual said: If Malfunction Indicator Lamp comes on while driving, it means one of the engine's emissions control systems may have a problem. Even though you may feel no difference in your vehicle's performance, it can reduce your fuel economy and cause increased emissions. Continued operation may cause serious damage.

I had few times replace Cat-back Exhaust experience, but this is my first time with Test Pipe though. If anyone know what is this about, please give me some advice, I appreciate your help! I might go to a muffler shop to check my installation, see any leak or something.

#1 PS: 2nd cause the engine light up is --- if you have recently refueled your vehicle, could be due to a loose or missing fuel fill cap, tightening the cap won't turn the light off immediately; it can take several days of normal driving

#2 PS: Invidia Test pipe fit OK, but Invidia Cat-back exhaust system, the way of mid-pipe bent different, one point is way too close to the chassis, during it still cold and sit idle, you might hear the knocking sound, you need some trick to solve that. I would like to show you the picture, but I just know to use copy & paste the internet link of the pictures from internet, I don't know how to upload the picture with the post from my hard drive.

There is a thread on this board today about someone else with a similar problem... look for the title:

"Check Engine Light, installed Tanabe Hyper Medallion exhaust"

No one here can tell you for sure what's wrong. Please read this:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=378792

installing an exhaust will NOT cause a CEL. installing a test pipe COULD cause a CEL. (this is most likely, however we don't know for sure without the code)

does your test pipe have a spark plug antifouler or did you install an electrical O2 simulator?

please read the thread I posted above and get back to us.

You can't just install a test pipe and drive away. What did you do about the O2 sensor?????

first you can't stretch the wire. a little tugging can wreck the O2 sensor.

secondly, when you install a test pipe, you have to do something about the fact that there is no longer a catalytic converter on your system. that's what xviper meant about what did you do about the O2 sensor.

if you install a test pipe, you will get a CEL because the O2 sensor detects increased emissions since there is not cat converter.

I am unfamiliar with the invidia test pipe, so I dont know if it comes with an antifouler extension like the berk test pipe. if not, you need to either install an anti-fouler, or install an electrical O2 simulator to bypass the problem of no cat converter on the car.

get the code, chances are it's for the O2 sensor. however, if you pulled on the wires you may have damaged it. does your test pipe have a built in antifouler extension on it?

An O2 sensor measures the amount of (yup, you guessed it) O2 at that spot in the catalytic converter. This is used to determine how efficiently the cat is working. When you remove the cat, the O2 sensor sees that the cat is not doing its job. When doing a test pipe, either the test pipe must be designed to move the sensor further back so that the ECU can be fooled or you must add something to fool the ECU.
Here is the Invidia test pipe:
http://www.invidia-usa.com/Products.aspx?ProductID=134

As you can see, there is no feature in it to fool the ECU. You can't just put it on and screw the sensor into it and think everything is good to go.

Anti-foul set up will help. $5.00 worth of parts is all you need.
