All engines are stronger after they are broken in. It has to do with the valves and rings seating better, friction surfaces getting smoother, clearances getting larger ...

There is a difference in vtec between '03 and '04....I driven the '04 and could not tell if there is a vtec transition. I know for a fact that my '03 vtec is more noticeable.

You must have driven a lame MY04........
Mine has a pronounced kick in the rear when VTEC hits. I've never driven an 00-03 but I'm wishing I had another 1000 RPM before redline.

Go test drive a '00-'03 and you'll know the difference...

I've driven both and I agree that there's no real difference in the feel of VTEC onset.

I'm with Razor on this one... I have also noticed the same thing in the Integra Type R- I am by no means a Tech but I think part of it may have to do with the carbon build up from lack of vtec for an extended time. Once you blow all that Sh!t out it seems a bit stronger.
