Need Advise
Hi guys,
Back in February I noticed there was some squeaking on my car around the area of the serpentine belt. When I brought it in to the dealer (under warranty), this is what they put in the comment:
"Customer reports that there is a light screeching type noise around the belts/pulleys, advise.
Technician confirmed the customers concern. Inspected the belts and found no sign of abnormal wear. Also inspected the pulleys and found slight residue build up on alternator pulley. Technician cleaned the alternator pulley and noise is no longer present."
So I've been reading about timing belt changes and such and it is advised to not use anything for cleaning... basically avoid any solvents, etc. on the belt/pulleys. When I got the car back that time, I noticed what appears to be spray spots. What should I do? Is the timing belt similar to the serpentine belt in that no solvents should be used? I've probably put in close to 2,000 miles now from when I took it in.
P.S. What prompted me to go back and start reading up on the belt is because I am hearing almost the same sound again when I drove the car last night. It seems to be gone today though...

You dont clean TIMING belts. The s2000 doesnt have a timing belt. Your problem is just an engine belt. Use whatever you want to clean it. The reason you dont clean timing belts is they are more difficult to inspect. You cant just pop the hood and look at it. If the cleaner you use causes degradation you wouldnt know it until it broke and your engine is shot. If your serpentine belt breaks, you just grab another and throw it on. No permanent damage to the engine.
