Default Need answer fast regarding brake fluid

I just called the local advanced and they said they had duralast pads in stock for the front and rear of my my02 s2k. They said the only brake fluid they have is the prestone dot 4. Now my ? is, will I be ok using the duralast pads and prestone dot4? I am the 2nd owner of the car and I have flushed and replaced every fluid besides the brakes and clutch. Will I be ok with these products?

I cannot comment on the pads but dot 3 is the way to go.

Honda DOT3 brake fluid is pretty cheap, pretty good, and perfectly fine if you are not going to track the car. I recommend it. It's what I run in all my non-tracked Hondas.

I would NOT recommend those pads. While I don't have direct experience with that brand, typically pads with a so called "lifetime warranty" are VERY hard on your rotors. While you may only need to replace the pads once every 5 years, you may need new rotors once every year. And rotors are much more expensive plus difficult to replace.

Get OEM pads or pads from a well known and respected manufacturer like Porterfield, Cobalt, Hawk, or Carbotech. Note...if you do go OEM, get those for an AP2...they fit and the material has a bit more bite to it than the OEM AP1 pads.

The best pads to get for street use are probably the OEM AP1 pads. The AP2 pads are a little higher temperature, but they are also more dusty. If you never track your car, the higher temperature won't matter and the extra dust will.

And if you track your car more than a couple of times, then you will need track pads anyway, so the (very slightly higher) temp capacity of the AP2 pads won't really matter.

The "bite" (friction coefficient) doesn't really matter much in street use anyway. The AP1 pads have more than enough friction to lock up the wheels. A higher friction pad is often a little easier to modulate if you are doing track-type driving, but it's not really an advantage on the street.

For most people the AP1 pads will probably last at least 50K miles on the street and have very little rotor wear, so "lifetime" pads are not a good choice.

I ended up using oem ap1 pads from honda and valvoline synthetic brake fluid. I went ahead and replaced the clutch fluid as well (pretty damn dirty). Clutch feels alot better.
