Default Need a diagnosis regarding tranny

I'm having a little problem with my transmission/clutch it seems like... A couple of nights ago I downshifted to second, hit redline, bounced off the rev limiter once, then shifted to third, then I slowed down to a stop a short time later, and after that, in any gear, there seems to be a knock sound ("duh, duh, duh, duh") coming from my transmission, and I can feel the vibration of the knock sound on the shifter as well as the clutch. The sound is really noticeable when moving from a stop in 1st gear. I took it to a honda dealership and they said the knocking noise is coming from the clutch area, but they wanted $900 to take it apart and inspect it. Are there any ideas with regards to the problem? The engine seems to perform fine and it doesn't knock when I'm revving the engine in neutral... Thanks in advance,

Oh and the clutch doesn't seem to be slipping, and the car sounds like a wrx/turbo car exhaust when I'm accelerating

Sounds like a spun bearing to me. I just had an s2k here with the same symptoms, it had a main bearing that was flaking apart, not a rod bearing. Noises are near impossible to assist people with. Sometimes a sound clip helps.

Hmm, but the honda dealership informed me that the noise was coming from the clutch area and not from the engine... The car starts up and idles fine

If your exhaust note has changed to that of a WRX when deceling I would have to say it has nothing to do with your transmission. Something happened when you hit the revlimiter.

I was under the impression it is "ok" to hit the limiter once in awhile?

the exhaust note hasn't changed, I was mentioning that the noise coming from the tranny/clutch resembled a turbo exhaust note...

I still say failing bearing by your description.

you can hit the rev limiter on the gas and be ok. Going into the wrong gear at redline (3-2) is a mechanical over rev and nothing will stop it. not sure which you did.

I hit the rev limiter only... I downshifted into second and it was at 5000 rpm... and I took it up to the redline/rev limiter... I am certain it was not a mechanical over-rev...
