So what you are trying to tell me.. the 'click' from taking or or going into reverse is the hub nut not tight enough and it will actully cause damage everytime i hear this??

 

Yeah, check out billman250's post. Also, do you autocross? That seems to greatly exacerbate the issue.

 

Listen.

Unstake the nut (use a small special shaped punch to raise up the bent-over part of the nut)

Take the nut off, and put a light coat of grease on the face of the nut where it contacts the hub. NOT the threads. If the nut comes off rough all the way to the end, use some WD40 to lube the threads. the reason for this is WD40 IS NOT a good lubricant, but it will cut the corrosion. we don't want grease, or a good lube, on the threads or the nut will get serverly overtorqued. You think LOOSE is a problem follow this to a T.

put it back on and torque it to 220. Watch how far your old stake mark moves Re-stake it in the new spot.

 

In time, absolutely. I've done two hubs AND wheel bearing jobs on s2ks from leaving this unattended.

I've had the click when changing from forward to reverse (or vice-versa) for about 120k miles. I thought it might be the rear brake pads shifting in the calipers. I'll have to pay attention and see if it occurs when I first start to move or when I hit the brakes. Hmmm.

I've never checked my axle nuts but have changed a few for other owners, including one with thoroughly trashed bearings. Maybe I'll take a look at them one weekend. These are the bearings I took out of a local's car. A dealer diagnosed the problem as a bad diff and wanted $4200 to fix it.

 

It never was a TSB,or a recall. That's why it's not in the library. There was a service news article covering the revised torque setting.

 

All this time and heaps of people on this forum have told me that the 'click' noise is normal! damn!! lol
Got my hands on a brand new NTN bearing.. ill put this new one in and torque to 220 as directed.. ill let you know how i go. Thanks again!

 

Just do the procedure I listed first, before the bearing. all you need to do is pull the center cap. You don't even have to jack up the car or take the wheel off.

 

mine started popping today... but ive noticed the "squeaking" for about 4 months now? hope i didnt wait too long.. how do i know if i waited too long? i should be doing this fix this weekend....
