I'm having a slight problem and I'm taking my car in tomorrow so the tech can look at it, but I'd feel better if I got some responses from the guru's here first.

Just yesterday I started getting a clicking sound coming from the right rear wheel. It only makes the sound during takeoff and when I'm backing up, and then going forward again, not in constant forward motion, and it only happens for 3 or 4 clicks in reverse and 1 or two clicks in forward, not continuously. It also seems to take a bit of torque, when I did it in the smooth concrete Honda drive bay and the tires were spinning each time I moved, it didn't do it at all, I had to take it out to the lot and get on rough concrete to reproduce the sound.

My first thought was that the lug nuts were loose, but they are spec. The Honda tech thinks it may be brake shift, but it doesn't happen when I'm putting on the brakes, just when I'm applying torque. Any help before tomorrow would be greatly appreciated.

PS. My old Conquest Tsi did this and no one EVER found out what it was.

Please help.

Andrew

This sounds to me like your muffler bearings need to be lubricated...

No, I really don't know, actually. It sounds like a CV joint, but that would be in a FWD car. How loud is the sound? Is it a metallic sound? Can you feel it, as well as hear it?

Hmmm...

It does sound a bit "snappy" like a CV, and it only comes from the right rear. It's clearly audiable from inside and outside the car. I guess we'll see what they say tomorrow.

I believe they are, but I can't imagine one going bad this soon (6,500 miles). Another member has emailed me and told me that he experiences the same thing when backing out of the garage when the car is cold. The dealer will see it today and hopefully find the problem. Thanks for the input.

right they shouldnt fail this early, (CV joints)

That just might be brake shift/chatter, when the brakes are 'off' they still drag a bit. Maybe its similar to the snap after washing the car w/ the brake on.

Well, the verdict is in...it's "brake pad shift", common on Accords. The dealer even photocopied the Honda official explanation for me, but it's not enough. My problem with this explanation arises from the fact that it just started (6,500 miles), and it happens even if I don't use the brakes to stop the car from moving (like going in forward-reverse-forward just using the clutch to slow the car and change direction). Maybe it is "brake pad shift", but someone will have to explain to me why it just started happening, and why it is only on the right rear, and why it happens without the use of the brakes. It also just "feels" like suspension, like the up and down movement of the rear end has something to do with it, the more the rear moves up...the more clicks. Oh well, Honda will pay for this one if they are wrong, I'm still gonna' drive it like I stole it.

cmnsnse...I read your post, but I can't help thinking this has something to do with the suspension, but thanks for your input once again.
