need a new engine?
i'm planning to buy an s2000 but it has a spun rod bearing i spoke with a mechanic and he told me it would be better to get a whole new engine, but on the otherhand people are telling me to just get a block any suggestions on what should i do
You can probably have the crankshaft turned and then install a set of oversized bearings. You can do most of the work yourself (ex. remove crankshaft) and save a ton of money. Course you have to wonder if the car has been abused being that the motor suffered that kind of damage.
MOTOR SWAP IT OUT WID A B16A3 YO! THAT WOULD BE THE ROXORS UR SOXORZ. U CAN PULL A 16 SEC. 1/4 MILE WIF THAT SETUP!
now time to unpimp ze auto...... depending on what type of driver you are or what kind of driving you do(beat the snot out of it like a true enthusiast would or baby it like its an oragami chia pet) you can either just do what s2kvabeachcruiser suggested or do a rebuild. you might be able to get away with just a new crank and connecting rod plus a few other minor parts, rings bearing, ect...
rebuild and cryo treating it is a lil overboard in my iponion. unless it's a ford product. which it's not. you can just buy a slighty used engine for that much money.

Yep, 2.2L.
The major downfall is that Honda don't recommend you rev a 2.2 to 9K. That said, some have done it (actually putting an F22C in a pre-04 car with pre-04 ecu) and I don't know of any problems. There is an example of an F22C dying with a pre-04 ECU but it was a race engine and thrashed pretty hard. That said, you are definitely increasing your possibility of engine failure.
But like I say, there is a perfect set of F20C crank and rods sitting in my garage that would just love to be part payment on F22C equivalents.
