Default Need a new engine- what to look for to make sure I get a good one?

Hey all, this hurts me a bit so in not so few words I basically need a new engine. I considered cutting my loses as I don't have all that much invested in the car yet however I do feel some what emotionally attached to it as it is the first car that has really clicked with me and I've enjoyed it so much until now. I have an AP1 so I'm considering an F22C swap. What should I be looking for to help me get the best engine possible? How representative are compression and leak down numbers? Are there any considerations for the swap I should be aware of? My car is an '00 and I've read that my ECU should work but I do plan on getting a correct AP2 ECU or eventually going stand alone.

Thanks in advance.

04-05 is the easiest swap. Lots have done it including myself. All the info is already here on the site. Standalone is probably easiest but it won't be emission friendly if that's important. Currently running my 00 ecu w no problems. It is possible to run an ap2 ecu, few ways to do it.

04-05 is the ideal swap, f20c for f20c swap is by far the easiest. Make sure compression and valve leakage numbers are good, only other concern is oil consumption. The 04-05 swap largely avoids this.

The Speed Academy guys (Toronto) just fitted a F22C engine after destroying the F20C engine in their S2000. Try to find their earlier videos on this swap (late video below), they had many problems to sort out and there's no point in learning these yourself. Note the car would not start after the swap until they used the complete steering column and ignition from the donor car in the badasS2000.

They couldn't be bothered to program the key to the immobilizer.

I don't know. Did you watch that episode? or is this a response to my comment that they used the complete column?

I really enjoy the Speed Academy guys but those S2000 episodes is best used as info on how you should NOT do it.

Changing the column allowed them to run the ap2 ecu as well iirc ?

Changing the whole column got everything there from the AP2. I believe it was easier to just change the entire assembly than individual parts. Their initial track video (link earlier) documents the car runs well. Speedo from the earlier car still shows a 9000 red line but the rev limiter won't let it go that high.

I have read the various information online regarding the F22C swap and what additional parts I may or may not need depending on the route I go with the ECU. However, I am in need of tips on sourcing a good engine. How much do good compression and leak down numbers insure that the engine is good? At least 90% chance that it's good? What if the engine has been lying around for a long time? Ebay is an obvious source. Is Car-parts.com a legit source? They have a listing for several 04-05 engines available. Are there any other websites that you guys can recommend? I may have to enlist a shop in helping me find a motor as I don't have the facilities to do it myself anyway.

Thanks
