Need some assisstance
First post to this forum guys as I am a new S2000 owner. I have a problem that I was hoping someone might be able to help me with. Quick car stats.
05 S2000. Purchased with 18900 miles and currently have about 21000. I purchased the car in Tennessee and drove it back to Illinois. When I test drove the car, I had the windows up and couldnt hear the noise that I heard later on about 800 miles away from the dealership I purchased it from. My previous car was a 97 ek with B16 swap. On to the problem.....
When I go wide open throttle and my car engages VTEC, there is a strange clicking noise that comes from under the hood. The car feels like it is not getting the full power from VTEC and sometimes I am not even sure that it is engaging. It sounds to me like it comes from the drivers side, but that could just be because thats the side I am sitting on, although people who have ridden with me that I have tried to let hear it say that they cant really hear it. It has done this ever since I got it. My oil level has always been correct and I check it weekly. It has the new map sensor recall thing done to it (zip tie). The car also has an occasional flutter in power when not in vtec at around half throttle. But in this scenario, there is no clicking noise. The car idles fine and does not make any noises except when engaging vtec. I am positive that the thing is not blown.
I do not have a warranty, and figured that I would pick the brains of some more informed S2000 drivers before I call upon the dealership to figure it out. If anyone has experienced anything similar to this, or might have an idea as to what it could be, I would really appreciate it if you can help in any way.
Thanks in advance fellas.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your new ride.
I haven't run into exactly the same issue, but something sorta similar. In that case the locking pins that engage the VTEC lobes were not working correctly. One was jammed so VTEC was weak. I don't recall it causing a ticking however.

Thanks for the response guys.
The ticking is not constant. I am not sure if ticking is the right explanation of the sound either. I guess the best sound description that I can give is that it sounds very similar to the sound that an electric spark would make.
CKit, I do not really know anyone else with an ap2, or ap1 for that matter. Maybe I will stop the next one I see on the road.
Thanks again guys.
