Default Need to tune AP2 - AEM?

AP2 engine in an AP1 chassis (if it matters).

No idea which "system" works best (i don't even know what systems there are)....

I used to have VAFC whic apparently doesn't do anything with timing, so I figured I would spend the $ and get the better stuff.

There is some kind of stand alone AEM (does that mean no ECU?) system that is about $1250 on ebay..... is that the best? which version do I want?

with the Ecu not there, how does the key work?

is there a FAQ for this stuff? I feel like a Noob....

thanks

EMS replaces the ECU. None of the emissions stuff will work (like you care) they. The key will work and there is no need for the Imobilizers any more either. Perfect for what you have in mind.

The AEM EMS is the biggest one on the market, anything else will require a rewire for the engine harness.

The gains for a NA stock are minimal, and not worth the expense when a stock PCM can do the job. The EMS comes untuned, and will need several hours of dyno and road tuning to driver acceptably.

I'm assuming this is for a HC car, to replace your previous one. If you are keeping it NA. use a stock AP2 PCM and have a dealer program the keys to it.

really??? I thought there was a good bit of power to be found with EMS?

I think my shitty old VFAC picked up a decent amount.

Depends what $$$ amount you assign to each HP. You can figure at least 2k-2.5K for the EMS and tuning and pick up 10-15 hp. The tuning is the real expense, not to mention a bad tune will destroy any motor.

i assumed (apparently incorrectly) that it would be about an hour on the dyno just like a VAFC..... around here that is about $125.

Figure 3-5 hours, if you have a good tuner with decent base maps to start from. It's not uncommon for 12-20 hours for a FI car.

Chris

Is there any way to remove all of the emissions stuff and not have a CEL with the stock ECU? You know, bypass this and that system. That is one reason EMS looks good for Scot's application, cost aside.

Scot

Both versions of the AEM EMS are the same. The 1053U has a built in wideband. You want a wideband for tuning. I have an external wideband so the 1053 would be what I would use. I am looking at other EMS type options. Bacicly I want to run the 2.2L to 9K and don't want any of the emissions stuff on the car.
