Default New comer considering Mugen ECU. Need Help.

Hello All,
I just picked up my 2001 S200 a couple of weeks ago and I love it. It came with a cold air intake and comptech exhaust. plus a racing clutch and comptech coilovers. They guy I got it from told me that if I want to get more power (who doesn't want more power) I should consider putting in a Mugen ECU, which is about $1500. does anyone has any experience with the ECU and could tell me what it does for that much money, would i get more horse power or higher speed, or is it just something to waste away $1500 on?

thanks for your helps

Afshin

The Mugen ECU will not run on 91 octane pump gas. It requires at least 95 or 96 octane or it pings badly. It has no theft deterent. It does give you a leaner air/fuel mixture and some timing advance. In the end you will see only four horsepower or so increase in maximum power but it has much more horsepower and torque down low and through the power range. It also raises the redline 100rpm, from 8900 to 9000.

You could try an Octane booster or get race gas from the track, but it would be a bit of a hassle.

Hi speeeding, is the spoon ecu work the same way with the higher octane like mugen. Also, does it eliminate the obd2 stuff so you wont get a CEL?

Many Mugen ECU owners sware that it does fine on 93 octane, as long as you have the cooling mods. It should also give more gains than a V-AFC, which is usually more than 4 RWHP peak.

I don't understand why the writer reports this as he apparently has no experience with a Mugen ECU.

I'm the newcomer to the world of S2000, and like everyone else would love to get more power out of the car. I have a cold air Intake and comptech exhaust on it which came with the car when I got it. I don't mind paying the $1500 for the ECU if it actually does something. I don't think I would need a higher top speed, I just need more acceleration and torque on lower RPM specially before the VTEC kicks in. does this ECU do any of that?

Get the 4.44 gears. 8% increase in acceleration but you may lose some top end. How often are you going to be at 150+ anyway? Xviper thinks you may actaully be able to hit top speed with these gears.

Did you get the white S2000 on ebay? That car had a comptech exhaust and some ugly white wheels.

Get the 4.44 ring & pinion final gear set. This is what I understand to be one of the best bang for the buck performance mods you can do. Do a search on 4.44 and you will find many threads with feedback on the performance increase. "xviper" is definitely a great resource for any questions and he has documented in great detail about them in several threads. Good luck!
