Default New engine, just done 1000kms

Hi all,

I just got a new engine from honda to replace my last engine which failed due to a spark plug failure which hammered cylinder #2; some of you may have read my 'engine making tapping noise' thread....

I have followed the instructions as per the manual; do not take the engine over 5.5K rpm for 1000 kms. At the start for the first few hundred kms i wasn't taking it over 3.5k rpm. then towards nearing the end of 1000 km's i gradually worked it up to 5,500 rpm.

My question is - Is it right to take to 9k rpm yet? should i work it up to 9k rpm? or can i just start thrashing it? Normally i dont care and i've thrashed the shit out of all my previous cars.......but i've never had to replace an engine and s2k engines arent all too cheap as i've heard so i just want to make sure that i dont need another one!!!

I've read in some threads and some internet sites that the best way to run it in is to belt the living shit out of the engine......i felt i better follow the manufacturers instructions because i dont want honda to jerk me around if i have to make any sort of warranty claims again.

I wouldn't worry about it if the engine is running under a good A/F and timing map. A lot of tuner actually break in their engine on a dyno.

Check what oil Honda put into the engine. If they used a straight grade running in oil I would get it changed to a multigrade before using sustained high load/rpm.

Call the dealer and ask them if they need to change the oil. Its unlikely they used the same running in oil as the Honda factory so its worth a call to check with them first.
