Thumbs up New noise!

I get this shudder raspy sound when I am driving normal and just barely push the gas in or let off just a little. It is not the clutch buzz b/c when I am completly letting off the gas there is no noise at all. It also shudders a little when starting off from standstill normally. I thought it was my old worn out clutch but I just put a Mugen PP, OEM disk and Toda flywheel in and it does the same thing. I dont think it has to do with the clutch at all. Any help or ideas are appreciated and I hope this is not a repost b/c I did search. Thanks

Someone, Anyone HELP! I cant seem to get an answer from any mechanic. Another thing that was weird is when I started the car after the clutch install there was a grinding noise and a little smoke for a second. The car drives good except for the churning noise while trying to maintain a constant speed.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hate to say it, but it sounds like a bad bearing inside the transmission.

Idling in neutral, clutch out, is the noise there?

Push the clutch in, put it in first but don't move, see if the noise disappears. If it does, it's the tranny.

is this not the engine dropping revs below idle and shuddering while in neutral?

No, the noise is only while driving at any speed and at any rpm and barely let off or pressing the gas (it like there is a sweet spot). just while cruising normal and if i give it more gas it goes away or if I let off of the gas completely it does not make the noise. Any Ideas?

I just told you how to verify a bad trans bearing. I know you problem is on the road. Do it and let me know. This is a standing test for your cruising problem.

Idling in neutral, clutch out, is the noise there?- not exactly but there is a noise that sounds like a small electric motor running or a belt turning.

Push the clutch in, put it in first but don't move, see if the noise disappears. If it does, it's the tranny. When I push the clutch in the running noise goes away even if I dont put it in first gear. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Unfortunetly Billman is probably right. Your problem sounds exactly like bad tranny bearings. I had this same situation in my ol' 280zx. It gradually got louder. Then one day I heard a loud BAM, and dumped tranny fluid all over the road. After pulling the engine and tranny I found that a bearing had finally broken apart inside the tranny and shot through the metal plate in the bell housing. My tranny literally exploded. I was lucky enough to have a spare in hand by that point.
