New OEM filter made by Fram?
Stopped by a Honda dealer today to pick up a filter and the guy hands it to me and it was "small". I told him it looked too small. He then informs me that this is the new style that supercedes the previous one. Anyone heard about or seen this? Still Honda blue but now also has a "Fram" logo and is the diameter of a soda can?
They also wanted $10.00 for it and another $1.00 for the drain plug washer. Last filter I bought was from the same dealership. Was only $5.00 and the they threw in the washer for free. I let him keep the filter until I can find out what's up with the new design. Anyone know???

I can't answer your question specifically, but I've never felt that the OEM oil filter "was all that". Why not just get a Purolator. It's relatively cheap and has been proven in posted filter tests as being one of the leading filters.
ps. Re-use the old washer. I've done lots of oil changes and re-used the old washer. No biggie. Just clean it off and put it back on the same way it came off.

The small filter they gave you is still wrong. I believe the part # is 15400-PLM-A01. The old filter # 15400-P0H-305?(pretty sure)superseded to the PLM#. The S2000 got a new filter #, 15400-PCX-XXX (not sure on the last 3#'s) which is the same size as the old one. They are made by Toyo Roki. Do yourself a favor and DON'T reuse the washer. Every time you use it it gets crushed again and again- And will eventually get bigger than the drain plug. Washers are cheap. Oil pans are not.
Why not even go the extra mile to make it easier on yourself and get a drain valve instead of the drain plug? I've put these valves on ALL my cars and I'll never go back to using a drain plug. Just think, you don't even need a wrench to drain the oil PLUS it's cleaner. This is one improvement where there is NO downside. No more buying washers. No chance of forgetting to install the plug. No chance of stripping the crankcase(most important "plus").

I wonder what we did to make us so special....
If using aftermarket oil filters somehow magically add some greater value to your driving experience and if it's cheaper to boot, then by all means go for it.
But what you risk here is that if some engine issue comes up and Honda finds out you've been using an oil filter that's not a genuine Honda part, you leave yourself and your car vulnerable for no good reason.
Just pick up half-a-dozen from handa-accessories or your local parts department with whom you've possibly setup a discount through; keep it simple.
As for the crush washer, it's so damn cheap why not just switch out? If you look at the washer itself, it's two different types of material mated together. Honda explicity states in their manuals that one side is to go to the oil pan and the other to face the oil filter itself.
Reusing a crush washer should be fine as xviper has prescribed, but they're so damn cheap and it's such an easy step, why mess?
I've resued the crush washer on the differential bolt cuz it's so damn big and the parts department doesn't keep them in stock. So fine, I'll reuse it but if they did have one, I surely would've swapped it out. Am I sweatin' cuz I reused it? No way.
