Thumbs up New Owner - Few Questions

Hey all,

Got a few questions to ask, might just be paranoid but thought worth an ask ;-)

1) Whats the correct tyre pressures?

2) Car seems a little tough to get in reverse sometimes? This normal?

3) I find that everyday driving i seem to skip out gears when changing up, eg 1st - 3rd. Is this common practice or am i doing something i shouldnt?

4) I find that when i'm not changing gears quickly it can be stiff getting into 6th sometimes (the cruising gear ;-). Is this just down to me not used to such a close box or something else?

5) Finally, every now & again when the revs drop they seem to drop a little too low & although the car picks itself back up, just wondered if anything to worry about.

Cheers all & my apologies if these questions have been asked before, i'm a new & unfortunately inexperienced owner so gotta start somewhere.

P.s - had a full RAC inspection (specialist independant uk company) on the car which flagged up nothing but stone chips.

1) 32 PSI cold
2) Normal, I get that sometimes as well
3) Do NOT skip gears. Members here have shown this leads to damaged syncro's. Search / read for mor einfo
4) Can't help much as I rarely use 6th gear
5) Probably because the car makes no torque, try to keep the revs above 3k

Enjoy the new car!

daktruckie99 - Cheers for the info.

1) i'll get them sorted tonight.
2)Phew- glad to hear tha
3)ok i wont anymore
4)rarely use 6th? i tend to spend quite a lot of time cruising in 6th, ah well.
5)Read somewhere its ECU related & its pretty normal in that its just the ECU learning something?

NVMY4N - have read most of it now, just some things weren't that clear, so i thought rather than scaring myself into thinking a new gearbox/clutch was needed, when in fact its quite normal - thought it best to ask.

NVMY4N - Ok well i'll keep an eye on it, if it continues i'll defo look down those routes, cheers.

I think it may have something to do with me regularly putting in a higher rated fuel (uk V-power - shell 97 ron i believe) than i think the previous owner used (normal premium unleaded 94-95 ron i believe).

Tyraid2K - "for the love of god do not skip shift" is it really that naughty? As in could my prob have been created from someone in the past doing it?

Plus whats the thoughts as to my current situation? 2) & 4)

cheers all for the posts

You could try flushing your tranny fluid with some new stuff. Not to scare you, but a 6th gear lockout is one of the symptoms members have received as a result of skip shifting.
