Sorry to hear that. Mine has never dropped below 900 rpm. Depending on how fast you are going, if you shift to slow, the rpm will drop causing a unsmooth shift. you want to match the engine speed with the wheel speed. Otherwise you will wear the clutch out. as far as the engine speed dropping to 400 rpm, that is something a master mechanic should take a look at. I am not a master mechanic so I cant advise you.

Just taking a stab at it, but sounds like a MAP sensor error. Make sure to take a look at it.

I get those same symptoms with my Jeep. About once a year I have to spray some carb cleaner (just a bit) into the throttle body. That clears it right up. Haven't had the S long enough to know if that occurs with it also. A long shot, but it's a cheap thing to try.

edit: look at this thread I just spotted.

It's possible the MAP sensor may be malfunctioning, as Siebel suggests. You may want to tap it firmly with the plastic handle of a screwdriver.

Is it possible that the weather just got cold recently where you live? Since your car is quite new, it may not have "learned" how to adapt to the new air/fuel mixture. Xviper has discussed this a while back, and he says that each year his car would idle low the first time the temps dipped down in the Fall (don't mean to put words in your mouth, Xviper - you may want to elaborate on this). If that's the case, it may go away by itself.

That is true, Honda ECUs to "learn" and store fuel maps for reference, the whole idea being, to gain optimal fuel level, and while the ECU is "learning" sometimes certain things are affected like idle speed and mpg/kpg ..

Hopefully it is something that will go away after a couple of days, if not I'd get it checked out.

Try resetting the ECU.
