new s owner needs help....
Hey guys, i have read the other threads about the same sort of issue im having but mine is different i think. once i start my 01 s2000 it idles fine for a minute and then starts dipping really low and back up, it does this for a minute or two and then dips and stalls. No codes are thrown at all though. I tried to clear the ecu by removing the negative cable for a while and then it seemed to idle fine for about 5 minutes after i restarted it, then it started happening all over again. i havent tried the map whack yet, but dont really think it is my problem. I cant even drive the car because as soon as i go to take off and give it throttle it dies as soon as i let off the gas. i figured if it was a sensor it should throw a code, right? Any advice would be great. and please save the newbie comments, im just looking for some help here. thanks alot and i look forward to hearing from you guys.
Mine does this on really hot days at idle, revving for a little bit and letting it return to idle tends to make it idle to low.. In cause it basically shuts off after a pretty rough idle down. Normal driving is just fine, if anything your S isnt liking the heat.
As for mechanical/electrical problems? Not sure what you can do, except adjusting your idle.

Yes it does it everytime, it started last night when it wasnt very hot at about 2am and I just tried all the ecu reset and idle learn today and it didnt fix the problem, unless I did it wrong, but i am pretty sure I followed the steps to a "T". So yea I could reproduce it at anytime for any mechanic, but getting it there and paying for them to look at it is another story. They want a minimum 1 shop hour for looking at your car, thats usually around 100 bux, and id like to avoid it if possible. I get no codes thrown at all, no check engine lights or anything, thats why I am so stumped.
Any chance you went through a dealer to purchase your S?
I bought a supposed "warrenty" that only goes into affect if I chip my $100 to activate when needed.. Honda certified one.
If you can, let the dealership know whats up. Otherwise, if your problem persists, I'd be too worried about my car TO worry about a charge the mechanic will throw at you..
If your lucky, spark plugs are loose or need to be changed. Id start from the electrical and make my way to mechanical.
Sorry to hear about this. Hope it works out for you.

i didnt get it from a dealer, it only has 43k miles on it. i am going to see if i can have any of my friends help me out. i just dont know many people local that know about s2k's. i am pretty mechanic savvy but this one has me stumped. im checking the egr and pcv tomorrow.
Check your idle air control valve. Also, the MAP sensor could still be faulty. MAP sensors don't usually fail so they'll never throw a code because the ECU can still see the sensor attached. However, the ECU has no way of knowing if the values it is reading from the sensor are good or bad, so it is possible to have a MAP sensor giving the ECU bad values and thus wrecking havoc with your car.
I think there's a thread on here somewhere for cleaning the IACV. Also, there's a thread dedicated to rough idling/stalling, that should help you as well. Unfortunately, I don't have the links handy or I'd just paste them here.
