I remember reading about and being interested in our unique steering system. It is electric assist instead of hydraulic assist.
Does this mean there is no fluid? And What should be checked occasionally if not?

No fluid, it's a coaxial motor.

It's NOT "electrohydraulic", which is a system that uses fluid but is pressurized by a electric motor instead of a pulley on the engine.
