I'm new to this forum and in no way a car expert, I

 

sounds as though you have a clutch that is slipping. Try this: Get the car moving at about 25mph or so, in 4th gear. push the gas pedal to the ground - does the engine rev up but the car not move anywhere? if it does, its your clutch
