Default no vtec + oil light

hey guys/girls, I sold my S a few months ago and it turns out my boss bought the car off the guy i sold it to. The rear end went (again), After rebuilding that (again) The oil light is on ONLY at idle if you give it gas to about 1100 rpm the light goes out. Also Vtec isn't engaging (but it will still rev to 9k)

The owner says he was doing 131mph at 8k in 5th gear, pushed it the clutch after letting off and it stalled and the CEL and oil light came on. Havent checked the code yet but any help would be appreciated, Thanks

im sorry bud, but it looks like the egnine is done for. VTEC works with the right amount of oil and the right oil pressure along with other things. It looks the other guy run it with low oil. good luck and start looking for a new engine.

Sounds like low oil or bad oil pump

You need oil pressure to get vtec and an oil light on at idle is low oil pressure. HELLO IT"S THE OIL

the car was NEVER driven on low oil trust me. I sold the car to a friend who didnt drive it once, then it was passed on to another friend that towed it to his house because of the diff. then i double checked the oil before he drove it. The problem happened yesterday and he parked it. went to pick it up today and yet again checked the oil and it was good.

Maybe pump? Vtec solenoid?

again i assure all of you the oil was NOT low. not even a half quart at any time during its life. I rebuilt the head about 10k ago and the bottom end was damn near perfect.

That and the car was driven aggressively home from where it was left (about 5 miles) with NO engine noise. with absolutely no oil pressure i would assume a rod would be gone fairly fast?

Do a complete oil change and see if the light goes off and vtec starts working...it sound like a low pressure problem to me.

EDIT: All those posts about not being low on oil weren't there when I originally hit Add reply

The oil lamp is red, which is usually an indication that the car should not be driven. The fact that after the oil lamp came on, the owner rev'd it to 9k is mind boggling.

Likely the pump if oil level is fine. Or at least we should hope it's the pump..

the oil light hesitates to stay lit up even at idle and sometimes doesn't depends where its idling. only after its warmed up and drops below 1k it will flicker on and off. No light under load or free rev. The car is not low on oil.

Im trying to avoid him sending the car to the auction so please help
