Noises in Driver side Rear
Ok, so I have 2000 s2k with about 55k miles on it. took it out last night drove around a bit, got on it a few times with a fellow s2k owner and had some fun. No problem. Get up, go to get groceries today, no problem. Get to the store and start hearing a noise.
Somwhere behind the back driverside wheel there is a rickety sound. Kinda like "e-er-e-er-e-er". Speed bumps don't seem to affect is so I'm not thinking that it would be suspension, but the noise gets faster as I accelerate and is extrememly loud even at a slow crawl, gas or no gas.
Any thoughts.
Gosh, this is such a bummer. I hate getting raped at the honda dealerships to have them fix it. If anyone has a clue and has a shop/garage with tools in columbus area, I'd love to have some help trying to fix it
I can do a lot of the work myself, but usually need someone to point out what I need to do and supply me with tools.
I appreciate any help!! There seem to be some great mechanics on here.

Were you dumping the clutch at all?
Hopefully it is something stuck in your wheel or something and not a differential problem. Did you do any inspection on it to see if there is any foreign objects?

With this many miles on it, has the car EVER had the diff fluid changed and has it been changed regularly (annually)? If not, the rear diff is just waiting for the moment to grenade given its size and what it is asked to do.
Although your description of the sound doesn't really tell anyone what exactly your car sounds like or is doing, the rest of your account, "could" indicate a rear diff issue, wheel bearing issue or CV issue.

I did do an inspection. There is nothing stuck under there and nothing looks severely wrong to me, but I really have no clue

Your screen name suggests that you have a turbo. Yes, no?

I bought the car about 2 months ago. I don't know if the diff. fluid has been changed or changed regularly.
I definately need to get it into the shop for inspection though. I just hate goin. They rape me on costs. Unfortunately, in an apt. complex, not much I can do on my own.
I kinda thought it might be a bearing or rear diff, but I don't know for sure.
Thanks for the input.
It's so hard to describe sounds in words. It's like
" woosh, woosh, woosh" or "er, er, er, er" Increases with more acceleration and slows down as I let off. I've gone over speed bumbs in my complex real slow and it doesn't make any noise, so I guessed taht it had something to do with wheels or axle area. I'm scared
Question: If it's the diff or bearing, do you think its ok to drive for a day or two until I get it to the shop?

Could also be a stuck brake pad or warped rotor. Next time it makes this noise, try to gently apply the ebrake and listen if the noise changes. If it's a wheel bearing or the rear diff, the noise will not change with mild application of the handbrake.
Thanks for all the help. I'll try that out and see if I can get it to the shop this week.
btw, props....this is how a forum should be run!!!

I think i'm having a similar problem, but on the passenger side rear. i hvae an used 03 i got about a month ago with only 9000 miles on it.
i'm wondering if it is a bearing or something. i started a similar type of thread, but nobody responded...hehe.
since my car is still under warranty, i think i'll just take it to the dealer on my next oil change and have a tech go on a test drive with me.

You have two choices here......
First off it is very hard to tell where sounds are coming from so discount the left rear.
1) Check your belt tension. You are describing classic loose belt noise.
2) I would be concerned about the clutch. At 4-5K RPM you will not break loose the tire efficiently and all loads will be on the clutch (which is very weak on this car). If you need to do it drop at 7-8K.
