Well hold on, let me see if I understand.

I know with my noise, if I rev up to lets say 5000 rpms or so and then let off the throttle, the noise will be noticeable only for a moment as the revs drop, but if I'm understanding correctly it should disappear immediatly as the injector would no longer be doing its job if your foot is removed from the pedal?

 

Correct. The injectors shut down with closed throttle and deceleration.

 

Well then my guess would be to rev the car to around 7,500 rpms and then let it coast down through the "noisy" area (3000-4500-ish rpms) and if the noise occurs the injectors can be ruled out correct?

In theory, yes, but if the noise is as subtle as you say, other stuff may interfere.

I will test this but on decel, the clutch moan might be too loud to notice this ticking.

My noise isn't really there when the engine is cold. It will gradually get louder as the engine heats up with driving. that rules out valve tick since it is usually the other way around.

Lots of little fiddley things to do, fuel spilling everywhere and you need to put on new O-rings. All 4 injectors have to come off together and there are 8 O-rings.

 

I doubt it. It didn't sound odd at all when we were in there. A bad drive pulley bearing would still allow the alt to work. And you'll really hear it when it's about the crap out.

 

Well I took my car to a dealer thats about 30 mins north of here or so and one of the service reps is an s2ki member and takes good care of us. I explained to him that although it sounded "normal" before I'd like to get the valve clearance inspected. That is being done and he is going to inspector the retainers while they are in there just for good measure. I'll let you know hopefully tomorrow afternoon what the result is and if the noise makes any differance.

He did change out a map sensor that he said came up in the computere as "causing a fluttering at high rpms for some customers by literally rattling a little bit due to being a tad small" with a new one that has a twist-tie kinda mechanism in place that holds it in place better. As we expected this didn't make a differance, but at least I got a new map sensor and one less possibility.
