Default Is this normal?

Hey guys!
So, yesterday I started up the S and got going, as soon as i left my drive way I felt like hitting VTEC in first, then as the RPM's were climbing it hit about 5k then cut out, the power just dropped and it felt really odd, now its worth noting the car was cold I know I'm an idiot for pushing the car when its cold but I just wasn't thinking what so ever, after that the gearbox felt a little odd and had trouble putting it into gears so I turned around pulled back into my driveway and let the car sit for about 30 minutes then started driving again and everything was fine, Now my question is should this be a worry for me? or was it just because the car was cold? My knowledge on cars at the moment isn't to great so I thought id ask you guys!
Thanks!

It's because it was cold. With a cold engine it won't let you use vtec. No worries.
By the way, don't vtec with a warm engine if you warmed it by letting it sit, the gearbox and dif oil need to warm up as well, and that's only possible when driving it.

Keep reading the forums and you'll learn many things. Some important start-up tips:
1: don't forget to check the oil level as the owner's manual says
2: if you launch it, make sure you spin tires or you can blow the dif
3: take it to an empty parking lot/track to get used to it
4: pay attention when driving in the wet

Ditto. The car has a rev limiter when it is cold to make sure nothing gets damaged when car is running on a closed loop.

In mine I don't try to go over 5k until the temp gauge is on 3 bars (out of 6 I think?). Usually takes about 5-10 minutes, after that it's good to go!

Awww classic newb mistake. Not to worry, just let it heat up next time. Scared the eff out of me the first time it happened to me. That limiter cuts in HARD.

You don't take into consideration that oil takes twice as long to get to proper operating temp as coolant.. I suggest a good 20 miles and/or a good oil temp gauge indication before WOT to redline to guarantee proper lubrication, but that's just me..

Too many different variables to say that "20 minutes" is suitable. But it is playing it safe.

OP, read the owners manuel. You'll find everything you want to know about your car in there. Bonus points for spelling and grammar mistakes if you come across any.

20 MILES?!? geeze, I usually wait for about 2 min from startup and then ten min of actual driving after that everything should be just fine, seeing as it takes something like 5 min of normal driving for my car to hit 3 bars. (Times are approximate)
