In mine I don't try to go over 5k until the temp gauge is on 3 bars (out of 6 I think?). Usually takes about 5-10 minutes, after that it's good to go!

The outside temperature plays a very big role in your engines oil temperature.
When it's warm outside it only takes 10 mins or so from engine start to reach oil operating temp.
When it's close to freezing point it can take almost twice as long.
I recommend installing an oil gauge to everyone. I always try to keep revs around 3500rpm max when my car is still cold.
Ever since I turbo'd my S, I seem to baby her more when she's not properly warmed up.. when all temps are good it's a different story
