Default NSX brake caliper to S2000 conversion?

For people in the know. Can this be done?

I know that the NSX caliper can be a bolt-on conversion of the 'lude. The NSX caliper is also a 2 piston caliper. The pad sizes are relatively the same but the NSX is a tad bit larger. If it is possible, are there any master cylinder concerns? Thanks.

I started to look into this briefly some time ago... Sounded like it would be doable, but I never found out for sure. Lemme know what you find out. I think our rears might already be the same... I know the rear pad is the same as an ITR... and I vaguely remember hearing that was the same rear as an NSX. Anyway, it's been a long time since I looked into it, so I really don't remember anymore.

If the rotors stay the same and the pads are about the same what would be the advantage besides one more piston? Lighter weight? It is hard to believe overall braking would be improved enough to make it worth the trouble to do and sort out.

I highly doubt that it is any lighter in weight. In addition to the pain you will probably go through in aquiring a set. You are better off going with a set of Nissin calipers from Spoon

The NSX has more pad surface and --I believe--thicker rotors 1.25" in the front... I'll go out an have a look in my shop...

Reverend,

Its just the fronts that I'm interested in. I believe the rears are already the same. I hoping for a bolt-on conversion or minor modification.

cdelena,

There has to be some kind of mechanical advantage. Hopefully, it'll translate to better modulation and longer lasting pads and rotors. I don't think there's any weight reduction, might even be an addition.

docofmind,

Those Nissin 4 pots are nice but also expensive. The stock wheels don't fit either. Are NSX calipers hard to find? They've been around for over 10 years.

airsport,

Yes, you're right. The NSX pads are slightly larger. The rotors are 28mm thick, no so sure tho'

NSX pads are also expensive - trust me, I sell them to NSX track addicts.

NSX replacement parts, even somthing so little as a caliper, would be more expensive than an S2000 replacement caliper. Of course you are doing it one time, but its just to say... it will probably not be worth the expense. Same rotor, possibly same weight, I dont see an advantage at all - but we'll discuss that when airsport gets back. =D There are three kits out there now with bigger front brakes starting around 1300 just for the fronts and going up to 2500. both of those kits reduce weight, and have increased braking performance. just because it comes on an $85K car, doesn't mean it will be better for a $30K car.

So I take a miniute to check online before The Sopranos and read Shattens message... So I just went out and measured the NSX rotors. 1.1" vented fronts and .85" vented rears. Both same diameter.

When I took them off the nsx I was wondering about putting them on the S but didn't get around to trying the calipers on for size.

My educated guess would be a gain in weight with more pad surface front and rear. Along with a larger vented rear rotor and caliper.

I just put on the new forged wilwood calipers and am pretty excited about that.
