Default oddest problem ever

So tonight i couldnt sleep so i decided to go out for a drive. Car ran fine no issues whatsoever. But about a mile from home i decided to stoo at the bank and deposit a few bucks. Well once i got back in the car the strangest thing happened,.... i could put the car into gear no issues but once i took my hand off the shifter it just flopped back into neutral, no resistence just plop back into neutral, i was like wtf ??? Thing is the car stays in the gear it doesnt pop out and i can shift into all gears perfectly fine, just that once i let of the shifter it just pops back to neutral whilst remaining in the selected gear. I tried to gently twist the shifter and pull up on it thinking shit maybe i snapped t but no its still one piece from what i can tell without pulling it apart. Question is what the hell could it be ?? Im at a loss for this one?

What year is your car ?, that was an issue with ap2's, and I believe there is a TSB on it. Some people have addressed with by mixing different tranny fluids, not sure if that was a long term solution or just a short term fix. Try a search you should find lots of info on it. Are your symptoms like those listed in the post below:

No see thats the weird part , it stays engaged in the gear, its just the shifter that goes back to neutral, im thinking maybe the screws on the cover plate under the rubber boot on the shifter may have just loosened . Im hoping thats what it is. Im actually headed into work to heck it out now. Ill repost with what the problem is once i get it figured out . Just hoping ts nothing too bad

oh, I see, yes something definitely wrong with the shifter itself, could be one of the plastic parts broken on the shifter or loose bolts like you mentioned. I'd pull the shifter and examine it.

What a stupid problem haha,... I have a spoon direct feel shift lever in my car when i pulled it apart all the bolts were tight so here i am thinking crap its snapped then it has to be. Wrong,... the spoon shift lever has a brass fitting instead of an oem plastic one on the end of the shifter, hence direct feel. Well apparently over time the way its pressed on its just pinched on and it loosened, In turn over time and shifting the brass fitting came off the end and dropped a little further into the shift tunnel i guess it would be called ?? The reason there was slop and going back to neutral but staying in gear was because the shifter was still catching the fitting just that there was space between the 2 . L it took was taking it out and putting the fitting back on and squeezing it closed a little tighter around the end. And to be honest now the car actually shifts and feels smoother and tighter. All in all easy fix but what a pain inthe ass haha

How come no one ever mentions the mod they did that is most likely related to their problem?

To be honest i didnt mention it because its actually an oem shifter only difference is the brass fitting that replaces the oem plastic one. Mind you im mechanically inclined not someone whose picking up a wrench for the first time. If the actual shifter was in some way shape or form mechanically different from the oem then yes i would have labeled it the #1 culprit. But assuming the problem was the fitting would be like assuming the plastic fitting on the honda oem unit could do the same. Only reason i posted in the first place was to see if anyone had ever encounteted a similar problem. The fact i actually spent the 5 minutes it took to open it up and check it out, realize the problem and fix it , i think is 10x better than sitting here writing 100 posts about what could it be, shift cables, loose bolts , broken tranny, blown motor, low headlight fluid, etc etc......

Maybe it's more of an issue of the right voltage being delivered to the tranny?
