Excellent point Bill; Maybe the best advice anyone has given yet.

I feel kind'a stupid asking this, but is there any way for an over-rev to damage ONLY the plugs? Am I overlooking something?

There's nothing about an overrev that puts the spark plugs at risk, at least not until the valves and pistons start shredding each other. After that, there's no part in the engine that's "not" at risk!

That's what I thought. In some motors it *might* be possible for the connecting rods to stretch far enough for the pistons to contact the tip of the plug and close the gap, but if that was an issue with our cars you'd have seen it by now.

The last time I saw a trashed plug the valve head that did the damage was embedded in the piston crown.
