The OEM oil cap in my car has started to fall apart! Specifically, there are small areas of the thread that are chipping off. Of course I'm now concerned that these small pieces of plastic may cause problems in my engine internals (blocking oil passages, for example). There are now 5 spots on the threads of my oil cap with small chips missing. Can anyone explain what's going on here?

Please inspect your oil cap and let me know if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

Here are a couple of photos to document the situation:

This happened to me within the first 4 months of ownership. I replaced the original OE oil cap with a billet Comptech Racing cap. I lost the billet cap at a Streets of Willow Springs track day. I am now back to the OEM style cap. I can't justify paying another $50.

*disclaimer* The oil cap Iknow have is much faster than the other two I have had previously.

The little rubber o-ring that sits in the oil cap, up in the threads, costs 13 Euro at the Stealer! Damn Euro pricing. The stock cap probably costs 50 euro then here as well.

I have a nice silver aluminum cap that set me back $10 at Autozone. Here's a picture

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to pay $50 to $60 dollars when I can buy this one for $10 to $12 at Autozone. To be honest, I did spend a couple of minutes with a jewelers file to clean the threads up, but I thought that it was worth it to save $40 to $50 dollars.
