Default Oil Capacity??

Hello all,

I just picked up an 01 S2000 with 5K miles on it. I had to order the owners manual and until then wanted to change the oil. Does anyone out there know what the oil cap. is with filter change?

Much appreciated,

Jason

Welcome. This is actually not as easy a question as it appears. The owners manual states 5.1 qt, but most users feel it's a misprint and the actual capacity is higher. (Do a search.) I find 5.3 is about right, though some swear their car takes 5.5. To my knowledge there's been no definitive resolution of the issue. (Surprising, I know!)

Just fill to the top of the XX's. Also note that the two sides of the dipstick may disagree -- if so, use the lower reading.

I think 5.5 is about right, d@mn close to 6.0 if you use a larger oil filter like the Mobil1 M1-105.

Even more with a supercharger. Stock you should be 5.3-5.6 quarts. But why get technical, you are checking the oil level after you change it right? It will need what it needs.

Thanks everyone! 5.5 seemed to be the magic #. I also have an 02 Corvette ZO6 which takes 7 qts. opposed to the manual saying 6.5. I appreciate the input.

What do you mean the xx mark? There are 5 Xs I think.
