oil ch ch change ?
Whats up guys. I have an 06 gpw. s2k with 35200 miles on the car. i think its due for an oilchange so i was wondering
what oil should i use for my mileage? I was told the dealership uses some conventional oil. so What do i use? What is recommended by s2k enthusiasts?
on my odometer it shows my oil life % and it is at 60. is this a good measure of when to change oil?

Apparently alot of members use mobil 1 5w-30 / 10w-30 according to the climate they live in.
Personally in my ap1 I use mobil 1 5w - 30 synthetic, I could actually feel the engine running smoother after the change from conventional to synthetic. I don't personally have a oil life indicator on my car but you should change your oil every 3500 - 7000 miles according to your preference. I used to do 7500 mile changes on my 2001 bmw and never had an issue.
Also from what i've read you should use OEM filter because apparently FRAM and purolater doesn't cut it, but then again never had an issue with the bimmer.

Read the oil journals...lots of good information on what oil to use.
I'm actually getting set to do my first oil change on the S this Saturday. I've put nearly 4500 miles on it since I bought it from Honda, POC. I'm going with the Honda OEM filter and Valvoline MaxLife 10W30 (from searching, it was stated it was a good oil and since my car is pushing nearly 60000 miles, I figured I better start early! - and as a syn blend, you can go further between OCI's). I then plan on doing OCI's around 6000-7000 miles.
Also going to do my first tranny fluid change on the S this weekend as well.
A good 10W30 and the OEM filter is all you need.
And I wouldn't change the oil till the meter reads closer to 15%...

I use 10w-30 in my engine and change the oil every 3k miles. I read an analysis on the Honda OEM filters vs other common filters used by s2k's. The newest honda filter had the most advantages IMO.
For the engine oil, I used to use mobil 1 but I switched over to AMSoil 100% synthetic 10w-30. I read several reports on amsoil vs other "synthetic" oils and amsoil came out on top at every test. You can read it here (there are many other places you can get the test info).

The tests here are on websites of amsoil dealers, so are they real? I don't think they can get away with that kind of stuff for long if it was fake. But who knows.
Mobil 1 is a very good oil, its my opinion that AMSoil is better.

^^^^^3k OCI's with full synthetic? Isn't that a bit over kill? I mean, more power to you for it, but seems like a waste of Amsoil, especially when they claim:
"AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil can extend drain intervals far beyond those recommended for conventional oils. Its unique synthetic formulation and long drain additive system are very stable, resisting oxidation and neutralizing acids. AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 delivers the best possible engine protection, cleanliness and performance over extended drain intervals, reducing vehicle maintenance and waste oil disposal costs."
Just saying...to each his own of course and absolutely no disrespect meant.

The oil life indicator is not what you should go by to determine change intervals. There are too many unknown factors for anyone to say what interval to follow for your car.
There are known and documented issues with non-OEM filters. You can find some of that information by using the search on S2KI.com.
The best thing to do to know the "best" interval, and oil, for your car is to have the used oil tested a few times to give you a good idea of where your motor is. Just because your oil is black on the dip stick doesn't indicate it's used up. My last oil change the Oil Life indicator was at 5% after 4900 miles. There was plenty of life left in the oil based on lab analysis. They suggested taking the OCI to 6000. I'm Using Mobil 1 10w-30 Extended Life and OEM filter.

06 with 32k is a perfect time to use the lab to get a baseline for the motor.
