I've had my 2000 nearly two years, I check the oil once a month, never once has it needed topping up...and yes I do wring its neck on the weekends up in them hills, as in 100 miles range on 1/2 a tank kind...

That much oil will leave a trace: on the street (leak), in the intake (through PCV valve) or on the back of the car.

OP....how are you checking the oil? On an even surface? Has the oil been given enough time to drip back into the pan?

Have you done a compression and leak down test?

What type of oil do you use?
How old is your PCV valve?

More details will help.

Have used Mobil 1 10w 30 since the first day, tried Royal Purple for the halibut years back but only for one or two changes. I would definitely notice if it was dripping into the ground for sure because of howuch im losing. I check it on an even surface and I have been buying high mileage oil for a while low too but it's been Mobil 1 as well. Maybe ill start getting 10w 40. As far as the pcv valve I actually haven't look into it as much as I should be . But im just concerned because it's always burned oil so fast . I'm the second and final owner, got her with 14 k miles and am now up to 160,000, owned for 8+ yrs . Only concern is how other oils have other chemicals that may alter the engines internals. Am open to trying the new ones for sure tho

Other oils have chemicals that alter engine internals?

people put too much emphasis on oil brands without knowing the differences and the tangible effects.

Has one brand of oil been attributed directly to engine failure? Has another been attributed directly to make an engine last indefinitely? Nope.

But...FWIW, Mobil1 has *loosely* been related to early TCT failure and it has been known to have more burnoff than other oils of the same weight.

10W40 isn't an entirely bad idea. But thats likely going to be on the very thick side of a 10 grade oil at start up.

Castrol Edge 0W30 would give you the best of both worlds because it stays thinner at start up...and ends up on the thick side of 30 at operating temp. 0W40 is another consideration...especially if you're changing oil every 3k miles anyway.

Try a compression test first. It takes about 15mins. It will give you some idea of how the engine is doing and which direction you need to go for a fix.

A clogged PCV valve is also extremely easy to detect. Take it out of the valve cover and shake it. If it doesn't rattle...its probably clogged. Buy one FROM HONDA if you need one.

Switched to Castrol 10w 30 high mileage a day or two ago for my oil change and the ticking of the TCT has reduced significantly. A fresh oil change usually warrants a quiet TCT, at least with my AP1. But I made sure to stay at an average 90 mph on the way home from work, half hour drive, and shut the car off to eat then change clothing. Got in the car again and waited, still nothing noticeable. But will keep u all posted. I have changed the TCT in the past, 2 yrs + ago. But might changing from Mobil 1 to Castrol be the difference maker? Will keep updating after I check levels.

I have two 01 s2000s both drank mobile one. switched to Pennzoil platinum 10w30 and 10 track events or so after they eat nothing with normal driving but 1/4 quart at each event.

had a my05 that always had royal purple in it. no oil use between 4000 mi oil changes. new owner switched to honda full synthetic 10w 30 an says it uses a quart every 1800 miles.
probably needs royal purple or frequent changes with a good non synthetic.
i don't get it but different oils seem to get used up more than others.
