Default Oil Consumption

My oil was full for the first 3k of my OCI. checked the oil regularly. Then the other day I check it a few hundred KMs later and its at the L mark. 50/50 city highway. Castrol Syntec 10w/30. Vtec a few times a day. flat ground. oil checked in the morning.

What explains this seemingly random oil consumption?

Early AP1s use more oil than other s2ks. I noticed more frequent vtec = more oil used.

hmm maybe that could be the cause.

but until now my ap1 has used no oil (according to dipstick readings on level ground) and the amount of vtec hasnt changed at all. maybe its the nature of the beast?

Try regular oil and see if it burns! Some burn synthetic more than regular.

yeah thats true. I did think about that. Its just odd that it would start consuming oil for whatever reason now...and not before. trying to find an explanation you know?

i use 10w40 and damn it's a pain... if i have it like halfway between oil markings (H and L) then do 2 tanks worth of fuel averagin 240miles per tank then the oil is down to the L and I have to top it up...

I either think I have wrong oil type or something's wrong with the valve or piston seals... just not used to honda oil burner engines lol

topped it up and it took an easy litre. i guess it was a long trip or so that used some oil. I gave the pcv a shake and i didnt hear it so i tapped and it seemed to be a tad clogged up. that might be a good thing to replace. Is it possible that the oil is being turned into a gas or something lol>? its not burning or leaking so.

Rubbish.

Those that say Synth burns quicker than Mineral are using the wrong oil or their engine is knackered.

A good quality synth is the best stuff to get for your S.

If all of a sudden you are using oil it is generally down to the fact that the oil has cracked.

Change the oil and all will be well again.
