Default Oil filter

I have heard things about the oil filter vibrating itself loose.
Does every one use those filter brace things?

I've never heard of this happining. If installed correctly, little to zero chance that the filter will become loose on its own.

Precisely why it should be torqued to spec.

Under what conditions? The why is important to understand. Was a torque wrench used? Or was it hand tightened? Simply knowing that there was a problem doesn't really tell you enough. There are S's that have been wrecked and there are S's that have caught fire. Does that mean that those are problems inherent to the car or were there other factors at play?

Always consider the source.

i drive it like i stole it daily, dont track it though. The most vibration the car will see is at idle and this would be the most likely time for anything to vibrate loose. I have never had a filter even feel like it was loose when I have changed the oil and filter.

TSB's and recalls would be flying from Honda corporate if there were a problem. I see lawsuites and investigations that would be well publizied if this problem ever really existed. I think we can relax and continue to do our oil and filter changes as we have always done and forget about a strange fire caused by a loose oil filter. Do the job right and sleep well tonight.
