Default Oil Gauge

My car has a dual pod on the pillar with an AEM oil pressure gauge in one pod. It didn't work when I got the car, but the previous owner said it had worked and just quit. He did some troubleshooting, as have I, and neither of us found anything wrong. Assuming it's likely the sending unit at the moment, but this morning it suddenly started working. By coincidence or because it started working, I suddenly got a check engine light. As simple as this should be to get going, it's aggravating and I really like reading the oil pressure as I drive. The wires have been extended, but all appear okay and again, it started working this morning for the first time here. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like bad wiring. If it turns on and then off etc must be a loose connection or something like that.
