im looking to do my first oil change on MY08 and i keep hearing all these debates bout getting oil with high amts of moly in it. Here are some of the choices i was considering let me know that you think

1. Castrol GTX
2. Mobil Clean 5000
3. Havoline

i know a lot of people on here run gtx. Let me get some opinons and why thanks guys

 

I'm pretty sure that Castrol doesn't use Moly in any of its motor oils. Mobil and Havoline typically use a healthy amount, however I haven't seen a UOA or VOA recently on any of these oils to confirm this. But you really have to question whether that is the right criteria for choosing a motor oil.

I will not argue with you that Moly (specifically, Molybdenum Disulfide) is an excellent anti-wear additive. But there are others such as ZDTP that do an excellent job. Some of the best oils have no moly. Amsoil's line of oils is an excellent example.

IMO, any of these oils will do a good job, and it is unlikely that there would be a significant difference in wear between them.

Schaeffer oils have lots of moly (218ppm on UOA).

I use the #703 in my Tundra V-8 and it works very well. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in my S2000.

Valvoline MaxLife also has about the same amount of moly and I have used it in my S2000.
