Sounds like it might be an idle problem. Clean your IACV?

Can't say I have any resolution to the issue but couple of comments:

1. What year is the car?
2. How many miles?
3. Did anything trigger this event? How long has this been going on?
4. OEM oil filter?
5. A video would be helpful however not sure how much more I'd be driving it until you get this sorted.

Maybe consider getting proper oil pressure gauge to see what's going on. That would be my next step while also shopping for a replacement engine. That is shuts off is not good.

If the engine is encountering stall conditions the oil light coming on makes sense. If it's coming on otherwise..not good.

+1, don't drive it until you figure this out. I am worried you might have a thrust bearing issue...

Maybe not thrust bearings, but too much play in main bearings. Just can't hold oil pressure at ide. Esp when oil is thin, from being at operating temp.

Have you tried going to thicker grade oil? Like 10W-40?

Just a thought...

The car's RPM drops down far enough to trip the oil pressure light. That's not necessarily a problem with the oil or the bearings.

His oil light isn't on during normal driving.

Stalling a car will trip the oil pressure light.

So...fix the RPM drop issue...which is likely a IACV issue. Clean it or replace it.

Perhaps different sending units operate at slightly different PSI. My Oil Light doesn't come on, until the engine has been off for awhile. Like 5 secs after turning engine off.
