Oil? What to use?
I am going to a trade show tomorrow & want to pick up some oil & an oil filter for my F20C build. Looked through the threads & cannot find the information I need.
What oil grade do Honda advise - from memory its 5W-40 is this correct? (Fully synethetic?).
Also oil filters, I remember a thread on oil filters. From memory the conclusion was to stick with the OEM rather than K & N or anything else.
Thanks,
Richard.

10w30 is recommended by honda. i would stick with castrol gtx 10w30 if you're going to use dyno oil. castrol syntec or mobil 1 for synthetic(i would until you have at least 10k miles on the engine first).
In Europe Honda reccomends both 10W30 and 5W40. 5W40 because it is more readily available. Id say 95% of owners use 10W30. Tests have shown that 10W30 work best in our engines.
Im using Amsoil Synthetic 10W30 BTW

According to the manual, 10W30 is right for UK conditions. A lot of UK owners out oil that's a very different rating (0W40 for example) in, because of the brand name, and 10W30 is harder to get hold of.
If you're after basic 10W30, some Ford garages stock it. For better options, Redline and Amsoil sell 10W30 - but that's pretty much it for 10W30. 5W30 is more commonly available, and seems fine, as is 10W40.
Personally, since I can get the 10W30 Honda recommend, I've stuck with it. I use Redline's 10W30. I know it's a decent oil, and it's the right weight - so I use it.

5W-40 or 10W-30....you can't go wrong with either one.
I run the 10W-30 only because I live in a warm environment. If I lived somewhere colder, say Canada for instince, I would probably use the 5W-40.
Just purchase the one that is easiest to obtain.

The Honda manual says 5w40 or 10w30. If you live in a very hot climate, and plan to use mineral oil, a 10w40 in the summer might be a good idea, as the diff between a 5w or 10w in inconsequential when the temps are above 0 degF. I am not aware of a 5w40 mineral oil, at least here in the US. Do not run a 10w40 when it gets cold.
As to other oil recommendations, I have widely posted recommendations which someone previously was kind enough to cite. The good news is that any of today's products from the well known manufacturers is very good - excellence is available to the discriminating owner as well.
