Default oilpump question....

It's really hard for a mechanical oil pump to "die". There have been people that reported a drop in oil pressure that turned out to be worn out or spun bearings. This results in excessive flow to the large clearance areas, causing the drop in oil pressure.

It's possible that your drop in pressure is just due to a gauge or pressure sender problem, and your symptom is totally unrelated.

this could be totally unrelated but have you checked your oil level?

It's impossible to say whether your symptoms are related with this limited information. Many people get a low drop in RPM, when taking their foot off the gas. This has happened to me many times, and it is common during changing seasonal temperatures. Your car has to "learn" the new temperature conditions.

If you're not getting a Check Engine Light and your car is otherwise running well, I would say your pressure drop is probably an oil pressure sender or gauge issue. If you tend to drive very hard, you may want to change your oil, replace your filter and cut open your old filter to see if there are any shaved metal particles in it. Ideally, you could send a sample of your oil to a lab for a Used Oil Analysis, which would tell you a great deal about the health of your engine. I do this, and it is very reassuring.

Another possible cause for a pressure drop would be a great deal of fuel dilution in your oil. This can be caused by excessive idling, revving the engine, and possibly lots of VTEC but minimal long highway drives. If the oil on your dipstick smells like gasoline, it's time to change your oil.

yah the only real way to tell would be to hook up a different gauge with a new sender and see if tehy read differently.

if you have a drop in oil pressure did you notice a difference in noise? noise would be bearings
